Book Name in Malayalam : Putheri Songs of Adivasi We the tribals of the Gudalur valley in the Niligiri district of Tamil Nadu, South India started the AMS- Adivasi Munnetra Sangam in 1988 to protect our rights and to assert our independent identity. This movement was initiated by ACCORD, an NGO which works in the field of Community organisation, Economic Development, Health, Education, Advocacy and Culture. The Culture team with its emphasis on documentation has been recording cultural expressions through written, audio and video documents. Putheri was our maiden attempt in generating awareness about the wealth of our music. Putheri literally means the new rice gathered during our first harvest. It is also the name of the adivasi harvest festival.
The CD contains 19 songs which are sung on various occasions and sung by singers from Paniya, Kattunaikan, Beetakurumba and Mullakurumba tribes.
