Joe A Scaria is a journalist, trainer and speaker, Born in 1961 at Bharananganam in Kerala's Kottayam district, the same place where the first India-born Catholic saint Sr. Alphonsa is buried, Scaria cannot, however, claim to be the first India-born Syrian Christian sinner. In his entire professional career he did not win a single award. Nor did he submit any work for recognition. After 28 years in media and management functions, Scaria quit his full-time career in 2012 to be with his 94 years old father P.S. Abraham in his native Koovappally village near Kanjirappally in picturesque Kottayam district. Another reason for his resignation was the conviction that no one ever said on his death bed, Oh, I should have spent one more hour in the office. Between his debut as Sub Editor with the Indian Express in 1984 and resignation as Senior Assistant Editor with The Economic Times in 2012, Scaria worked in Kochi, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai. Of the 28 years, 19 were in the stimulating environment of the Economic Times. He now teaches journalism students, gives talks on media and socioeconomic trends, and conducts workshops for corporate leaders when he is not relaxing under a lemon or nutmeg tree.
