Dr Raju Narayana Swamy, popularly known as Kerala’s anticorruption crusader, is an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). He holds a B. Tech. in computer science and engineering from IIT Madras, LLM (Pro) from NLU Delhi and Ph. D. in Law from the Gujarat National Law University. He finished first in SSLC, first in Pre-Degree (now Plus Two),first in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Examination in Engineering) in terms of percentile, first in IAS entrance examination and first in the IAS training institute. He has held several key portfolios including District Magistrate of five districts, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Kerala and Chairman, Coconut Development Board, India. He was also observer of the Election Commission of India in 34 elections including the general elections, Zimbabwe in 2018. He has been widely acclaimed for his bold action in widening the Pattalam road and inner ring road singlehandedly during his tenure as District Collector Trichur. An officer known for his staunch stand against corruption, he is the recipient of the Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award instituted by IIT Kanpur. He has also been selected at the national level as the Achiever of The Year 2009 by the New Indian Express newspaper as recognition for Principled Civil Service.
A prolific writer and an author of 31 books, he has won the coveted Sahitya Academy Award for his travelogue “Shantimantram Muzhangunna Thazhvarayil. “and Bhima Gold Medal for his book Swarnam Niracha Kannan Chiratta in the children’s literature section.Dr Swamy is the winner of the Homi Bhabha Fellowship in Information Technology and Cyber Law. He also holds a Leonardo da Vinci Fellowship Research Grant from the George Mason University (Antonin Scalia Law School). He is also an eloquent orator.
